The focus of discussions with customers and prospective clients at the trade fair was on answering the question of how printing companies can expand their capacity while ensuring the increased quality requirements.

Canpac Trends, a leading provider of packaging solutions in India, made a clear statement at PAMEX by investing in a Rapida 106 with seven printing units and a coating unit. The press will serve as the technological centerpiece of its new packaging plant in Indore. For Karan Pursnani, Director at Canpac, the decision wasn’t solely based on printing performance, but also on reproducibility for repeat orders and high-volume print runs: Reproducibility and brand-compliant results are key factors in the new site’s strategy. With this purchase, Canpac now operates eight Rapida presses and has exclusively partnered with Koenig & Bauer for this greenfield project.

Akar Limited (Silvassa) also used the trade fair to modernize its sheetfed offset printing fleet. The company signed an order for a new Rapida 105. With five Koenig & Bauer presses now in its fleet, Akar aims to continue its growth in the finished packaging sector through increased productivity and quality.

Current market data demonstrates that the technology has a direct impact on customers’ profit and loss statements (P&L). For example, Miracle Group recorded a 45 percent increase in production capacity after installing a Rapida 105 in 2025.
In addition to hardware efficiency, Koenig & Bauer addressed another pressing problem for brand manufacturers at the Print Summit 2026: product piracy. Sascha Fischer, CEO of Koenig & Bauer (ES), presented a paradigm shift in his presentation “protected at print”.

A key technology of this initiative is varnish protect ‘aegis’. Based on Stegano technology, hidden information, such as codes, is integrated directly into the varnish layer. The major advantage for the production process: no changes to the design or prepress workflow are necessary, and a single varnish plate can be used for different customers and orders, which massively increases efficiency. Authenticity is easily verified via a smartphone app (‘a verification app – ava’).

This opens up a new business model for printers: they no longer just sell printed cardboard, but digital product protection as a premium service. The technology creates a ‘ghost loop’ invisible to the human eye, making counterfeiting more difficult and enabling brand manufacturers to track their products in real time.

Aditya Surana, Managing Director of Indo Polygraph Machinery, summarizes: “Our partnership, which began in 1994 with the first Rapida, has developed into THE success story for the entire Indian market. From over 1,000 Rapida printing units to digital innovations, we are setting new standards together.”

Akar has signed for a Koenig & Bauer Rapida 105 six-colour plus coater press at Pamex 2026, as part of an expansion at its existing facility to support growing demand for UV and value-added packaging work Akar has signed a deal for a Koenig & Bauer Rapida 105 six-colour plus coater sheetfed offset press at Pamex 2026, strengthening its packaging operations with higher UV capability, productivity and process consistency. Akar operates as an integrated packaging and brand-promotion solutions company, with infrastructure spanning folding cartons, luxury rigid packaging, flute packaging, CDU solutions and promotional products. The company’s facilities combine in-house design, pre-press, printing, finishing and quality control, enabling end-to-end execution for high-value packaging applications. Speaking to PrintWeek/WhatPackaging?, Ashok Jain, managing director at Akar, said the investment formed part of a planned expansion within the company’s existing manufacturing setup. “Over the last few years, our packaging vertical has grown steadily in terms of complexity and value-added work,” Jain said. “The new press strengthens our current plant by adding advanced UV capability, higher productivity and better consistency.” The Rapida 105 will be shipped to and installed at Akar’s existing manufacturing facility in Silvassa, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, with installation planned for July 2026 in line with the agreed delivery and commissioning schedule. Jain added that customer requirements were increasingly moving towards tighter tolerances, reliable repeatability and higher-quality finishes. “Having worked with Koenig & Bauer presses for many years, the technology and print quality were already proven for us,” he said. “This configuration allows us to align capacity expansion with quality enhancement rather than simply adding volume.” Rahul Jain, director at Akar, said the company evaluated multiple options before finalising the Rapida platform. “The configuration was finalised jointly with Indo Polygraph Machinery, keeping our substrate mix, UV requirements and long-term operating considerations in mind,” he said, adding that shorter makeready times, precise registration and stability on packaging substrates were key deciding factors. According to the company, the new press is expected to improve turnaround times and effective daily output, driven primarily by faster changeovers and reduced downtime. Akar also anticipates lower start-up wastage and rejection rates, supported by improved automation and process control. Samarth Surana, director at Indo Polygraph Machinery, said the signing at Pamex 2026 marked an important milestone in the long-standing relationship. “We are extremely pleased with this order and value it as an important milestone,” Surana said. “We are fully committed to a smooth installation and successful commissioning, and we are confident that this machine will deliver strong results for Akar.”

Canpac Trends has signed for a Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106 seven-colour plus coater press at Pamex, marking the centrepiece investment for its upcoming Indore packaging plant focused on mono and e-flute cartons Canpac Trends has signed a deal for a Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106 seven-colour plus coater press at Pamex, reinforcing a long-running technology partnership and setting the direction for its new packaging facility in Indore. Speaking to PrintWeek at the show, Karan Pursnani, director at Canpac Trends, said the Indore project had been in planning since mid-2025 and would focus primarily on mono cartons and e-flute packaging for food, textile and confectionery customers. “This is a packaging-focused facility where repeatability and brand-compliant output really matter,” he said. “That is why the Rapida 106 is central to our strategy for Indore.” The new plant will be Canpac’s latest addition to a multi-location manufacturing footprint that already spans Ahmedabad, Delhi, Tirupur, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Silvassa. The Indore facility will mark the company’s eighth Koenig & Bauer press installation and its tenth manufacturing unit overall. According to Pursnani, Indore was chosen for its central location and growing industrial base. “Serving central India has been part of the long-term vision,” he said, pointing to government-led MSME initiatives and expanding demand across food, pharma and FMCG sectors. The Rapida 106 differs from Canpac’s earlier installations in terms of productivity optimisation. Pursnani highlighted improvements in plate changing and cleaning enabled by newer ink duct technology. “Make-ready time has come down significantly,” he said. “What earlier took 90 minutes to two hours is now closer to 10 to 15 minutes. Manufacturing downtime is critical for us.” He added that the Indore project would begin with a single print production line, with scope to scale to two or three lines over the next four to five years as demand builds. “This is a mid-sized investment to start with, but the intent is to grow aggressively with both technical and sales teams in place,” Pursnani said. Koenig & Bauer RA 106 press will be installed by August/September 2026. From the supplier side, Aditya Surana, managing director at Indo Polygraph Machinery, said the Indore order marked another milestone in a relationship that began in 2016. “With the Indore plant, this becomes the eighth Koenig & Bauer press at Canpac and we are privileged to be the only printing machine supplier present at all Canpac greenfield projects,” he said. “It is a fully loaded Rapida 106 seven-colour plus coater, with full UV capability, similar to the configuration we are installing at their Delhi facility.” Surana noted that while the first machine in any relationship could be driven by marketing, repeat investments reflected performance on the shopfloor. “Repeat orders happen only when the machine delivers,” he said. “The fact that Canpac continues to standardise on the Rapida platform says a lot about consistency and trust.

He added that the Indore project would begin with a single print production line, with scope to scale to two or three lines over the next four to five years as demand builds.

“It is a fully loaded Rapida 106 seven-colour plus coater, with full UV capability, similar to the configuration we are installing at their Delhi facility.”

Surana noted that while the first machine in any relationship could be driven by marketing, repeat investments reflected performance on the shopfloor. “Repeat orders happen only when the machine delivers,” he said. “The fact that Canpac continues to standardise on the Rapida platform says a lot about consistency and trust.

The Indian Miracle Group, founded in 2009 by brothers Hemendra, Lokesh, and Amit Agarwal, is transforming the subcontinent’s packaging landscape at record speed. With more than 3,500 employees across eight locations, the company plays a key role in the Indian market. To profitably meet the rising demand for premium packaging, the group commissioned a highly configured Rapida 105 with seven inking units and a coating tower in December 2025. This investment is a direct response to growing market pressure, which demands increasingly shorter delivery times combined with the highest finishing quality.

“Sustained leadership in packaging comes from investing in the right technology, building robust infrastructure and empowering our teams,” said Lokesh Agarwal, Managing Director, Miracle Group. “This upgrade allows us to serve customers with greater speed, precision, and confidence.”

The collaboration with Koenig & Bauer extends beyond equipment to include technical expertise, application support, and long-term performance optimization – ensuring measurable value for customers and stable growth for the Group.

Ahmedabad-based Canpac Trends recently invested in a Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106-7+L combi / UV. This is Canpac’s seventh Rapida kit. The machine comes with Koenig & Bauer’s patented SIS (sensoric infeed system), fully automatic plate changer (FAPC), special format of 780×1,060-mm, with substrate range up to 1.2-mm, with carton and plastic package capabilities. The machine, supplied and installed by Indopolygraph Machinery, will be installed at Canpac’s new greenfield location in Delhi-NCR. Raag Todi from Canpac Trends said, “We’re seeing a strong demand in premium packaging that our current capacity couldn’t handle effectively. The RA 106-7+L helps us serve our existing clients better while increasing capacity for segments where quality requirements are higher. He said the press will be the backbone of Canpac’s north facility, helping it serve the north market efficiently. The company’s north facility is a part of building the infrastructure and geographic presence the company needs for sustained growth. The company is taking measured steps to enhance its capabilities while maintaining a focus on operational excellence. “It made sense to start with proven technology that we understand well from our existing Koenig & Bauer installations,” Todi said, adding, “These features should help reduce our setup times and minimise waste during job changeovers. We’re hoping to see smoother operations, especially during busy periods when we’re switching between multiple jobs.” The larger format and thicker substrate capability of the machine is expected to open some new opportunities for Canpac, giving it more flexibility with customer requirements. According to Todi, clients are asking for shorter runs with faster turnarounds. The new press should help us handle these changing requirements more profitably. “It should make things easier for our operators, especially when handling different types of materials. We’re expecting some improvement in the workflow,” he said. He added, “Our experience with Koenig & Bauer has been quite positive. That track record gave us confidence to continue with the same brand.
Koenig & Bauer is also actively addressing key market trends such as digital transformation, connected packaging, sustainability, and the vexed issue of worker qualification and shortage. Dietmar Heyduck, senior vice president sales global at Koenig & Bauer Paper & Packaging Sheetfed Systems, emphasised the significant evolution of printing technology and the growth potential of the Indian packaging and commercial print market. Speaking at a Koenig & Bauer greet-and-meet organised by Indo Polygraph Machinery (IPM) in Mumbai, he spotlighted the transformation in the industry. Heyduck noted that presses have moved from limited, standard specifications to highly automated machines with advanced features, a development he attributed to the collaboration between Koenig & Bauer, its Indian customers, and partner IPM. He proudly stated, “Indian ambition has met German precision.” Looking ahead, Koenig & Bauer forecasts substantial growth in the Indian market. By 2034, consumer packaging is expected to reach USD 93-billion, with commercial print projected at USD 46-billion. Heyduck affirmed Koenig & Bauer’s commitment to supporting its Indian partners in capitalizing on this growth, working closely with IPM, a partnership that spans 35 years and is now in its third generation of leadership. This long-standing relationship ensures a blend of local expertise and global standards, which has helped Koenig & Bauer achieve over 50% market share among German manufacturers in India. The company, a pioneer in the printing industry, is heavily focused on digitalisation and AI. Heyduck highlighted Kyana, an independent business unit and myKyana, the Koenig & Bauer digital ecosystem, which leverages real production data and AI to enhance efficiency. Connected packaging, another Kyana innovation, transforms packaging into a direct communication channel between brands and consumers, with solutions like Auraveo creating personalised customer experiences. On the sustainability front, Koenig & Bauer offers energy-saving technologies like VariDry Blue dryers, which can reduce energy consumption by approximately 30%. The German manufacturer also provides tools like VisuEnergy X, an energy management system designed for the printing and packaging industry to help customers reduce energy costs and carbon emissions. It works by automatically collecting and visualising energy consumption data from networked power meters, then using industry-specific software to provide insights and identify potential savings. These two offerings, as Dietmar Heyduck said, help minimise waste, reduce emissions, and collect energy data across the entire enterprise. Automation is a critical solution to address labor challenges. Koenig & Bauer offers 100% automation of processes in various formats, with the ultimate goal of a fully autonomous factory – from plate to print. Their Rapida presses, for instance, offer complete automation, including non-stop feeding and delivery, simultaneous roller wash, and 100% quality control with in-line inspection. These comprehensive solutions, encompassing automation, myKyana, and sustainability initiatives, are integrated across Koenig & Bauer’s entire product range for paper and packaging, including Rapida offset machines, post-press solutions like flatbed and rotary die-cutters, folder gluers, and flexo corrugated machines. Heyduck also reassured commercial printers of Koenig & Bauer’s continued support with their Rapida solutions. Concluding his speech, Heyduck reiterated Koenig & Bauer’s commitment to being a trusted advisor, helping customers optimise processes, increase productivity, and expand their businesses, even exploring innovative solutions like authenticating printed boxes. He expressed gratitude for the support and trust from India, reaffirming Koenig & Bauer’s ongoing commitment, including participation in future Print Summit and Pamex show, both in Mumbai.
Having completed his first 100 days as CEO, Dr Kimmich expressed his comfort within the company and his strong belief in the Indian market. Dr Stephen Kimmich, CEO of the Koenig & Bauer Group, marked his first overseas visit in his new role by coming to India, underscoring the country’s critical importance to the company’s future. Having completed his first 100 days as CEO, Dr Kimmich expressed his comfort within the company and his strong belief in the Indian market. “I didn’t go to the US, I didn’t go to China, I came to India,” Dr Kimmich stated, emphasising India’s transformation from an “emerging” market to one that has “already arrived.” He highlighted the shift from secondhand and imported machines to high-end, high-tech manufacturing, citing strong order growth in India over the last three to four years, with Koeing & Bauer selling “absolute high-end top products, top machines into India.” Dr Kimmich extended a heartfelt thank you to the Surana family and Indo-Polygraph for organising a successful meet-and-greet with the who’s who of the Indian print and packaging industry, noting the overwhelmingly positive feedback from his management team and employees about their partnership. He stressed that the 35-year collaboration is built on trust, which is key to its success. While acknowledging Koenig & Bauer is now a publicly traded company, Dr Kimmich mentioned the continued involvement of the sixth and seventh generations of the founding family. He spoke of the humbling responsibility of building upon 208 years of work and aiming to hand over a stronger company to his successor. Despite global uncertainties, Koening & Bauer is performing well, boasting the highest order backlog in its history. Dr Kimmich revealed a significant drop in orders from the US market, but this was more than compensated for by a historically best year ever in India and growth in other markets. He reiterated the company’s commitment to open borders, easy travel, fair competition, and free trade, while also preparing for a world where these principles may be challenged, necessitating strong global partnerships and diversified products. India, with its 1.4 billion people and growing middle class, is seen as a crucial driver of consumption and packaging demand. Market analysts predict India will become the third-largest consumer packaging market globally within the next decade. Dr Kimmich outlined Koenig & Bauer’s diversified portfolio, extending beyond its traditional sheetfed offset printing machines to include world market leadership in offset printing for packaging, metal printing, glass printing, and banknote printing. He highlighted the company’s significant investment of EUR 250-million over the last 10 years to become a pioneer in industrial digital printing across various substrates. Looking ahead, Dr Kimmich emphasised a “customer-first” approach as the driving force behind his agenda. He concluded his address by outlining four key pillars: Focus: The company’s portfolio is considered complete, with a commitment to excellence in existing analogue and digital markets. Resilience: Building a stronger, more adaptable company to navigate challenging global times. Performance: Increasing profitability through improved cost management. Intelligence: Heavy investment in artificial intelligence, with a partnership with Google and extensive employee training, to explore its potential in graphic arts, printing, packaging, and service. Dr Kimmich concluded by expressing confidence in Koenig & Bauer Group’s position to serve customers across all printing needs and his hope that in five years, in 2030, the company will be recognised as even stronger, with continued help and feedback from its partners.

“I didn’t go to the US, I didn’t go to China, I came to India,” Dr Kimmich stated, emphasising India’s transformation from an “emerging” market to one that has “already arrived.” He highlighted the shift from secondhand and imported machines to high-end, high-tech manufacturing, citing strong order growth in India over the last three to four years, with Koeing & Bauer selling “absolute high-end top products, top machines into India.”

Dr Kimmich extended a heartfelt thank you to the Surana family and Indo-Polygraph for organising a successful meet-and-greet with the who’s who of the Indian print and packaging industry, noting the overwhelmingly positive feedback from his management team and employees about their partnership.

He concluded his address by outlining four key pillars:

Focus: The company’s portfolio is considered complete, with a commitment to excellence in existing analogue and digital markets.

Rapida 106 with innovative technology Shortest makeready times and high print speeds for maximum efficiency Strategic partnership: local support and reliability HBD Packaging, a family-owned company founded in 1985 and based in Greater Noida on the outskirts of Delhi, India, has expanded its production capacities with a new sheetfed offset press. At the end of August, a Rapida 106 with seven printing units and a coater from Koenig & Bauer was officially commissioned. This investment reinforces HBD Packaging’s leading position in the Indian packaging industry and marks a significant step towards further optimising its production processes. Led by brothers Rajiv and Neeraj Bhargava, the company holds all major certifications for packaging production, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000:2018, HACCP, FSC®, and FSSC 22000. Advanced technology for peak performance and flexibility The new Rapida 106 is a highly configured seven-colour press with a coater, specially tailored to HBD Packaging’s needs. With a special format of 750 x 1,060 mm and the ability to process boards up to 1.2 mm thick, it offers impressive versatility for HBD’s entire production spectrum, which includes folding cartons, laminated solid and corrugated cardboard, hang tags, and much more. Equipped with a fully automatic plate changing system (FAPC), combined washing devices, and the ErgoTronic ColorDrive (with L*a*b measurement) and Automatic Camera Register measurement and control systems, the Rapida 106 enables extremely short makeready times and high production speeds of up to 18,000 sheets per hour. These technical features ensure fast, smooth, and more reliable production, which directly impacts the company’s efficiency and profitability. Additionally, the press includes non-stop feeders and delivery, and the entire machine is raised to handle larger stacks. Aditya Surana (l.), Managing Director of Koenig & Bauer’s sales partner Indo Polygraph Machinery, presents a model of the Rapida 106 to Rajiv Bhargava, Managing Director of HBD Packaging, and his grandson – Rivaan Bhargava © Koenig & Bauer Reliable partnership as a guarantee for success The key factors in HBD Packaging’s decision to choose Koenig & Bauer were the convincing technical features and the strong local support. Rajiv Bhargava, Managing Director of HBD Packaging, particularly highlighted the SIS (Sensoric Infeed System), fast delivery time, excellent local service, and short makeready times. “The Rapida 106 is our dream machine. We want to use it to strengthen our market position and unlock new potential. We are already experiencing faster, smoother, and more reliable production than ever before.
